What are the documents I need to study in the UK?
For a postgraduate program, you will need your certificate, transcript, personal statement, references, passport, WAEC certificate or proof of English test and CV.
For an undergraduate program, you will need your WAEC result, IELTS, passport information, and statement of purpose.
Can I use the same documents to apply in the US and Canada?
Yes, but typically you will need to show standardized test scores such as SAT or ACT, and in some cases, GRE and GMAT for US institutions. Both US and Canada also require a Secure English Language Test (SELT) result; IELTS, TOEFL or any other recognized SELT result is acceptable.
Can I apply with an OND/HND to UK universities?
You cannot get a direct Master’s degree program with OND or HND. However, you will be able to do a top-up program or a pre-Masters then advance to a Master’s program with an HND.
What is the turn-around period for admissions decisions by universities?
The turnaround time for UK universities generally range between 48 hours - a month. It is sometimes dependent on the specific course you’re applying for, and the university’s policy.
Must I write IELTS?
For a postgraduate degree in most UK universities, you do not need IELTS as long as you have a C6 and above in WAEC. However, for most undergraduate applications, an IELTS might be required. A SELT result is compulsory in US and Canada.
Do I need to pay for applications?
Most UK schools do not require an application fee. However, application fees are required for most universities in US and Canada
Can I come to Narrowhill for an in-person consultation before making a decision?

How much will I need in total to study a postgraduate course?
In the UK, postgraduate courses range from 13,000 to 30,000 pounds. Living expenses also cost about 10,000 pounds yearly. The total amount you’ll need in naira is dependent upon conversion when needed.
Can I use my WAEC result to apply directly for an undergraduate program?
No, you cannot use only your WAEC result to apply directly for an undergraduate program. Most universities require a SELT result in addition to your WAEC. However, there are a few universities that may accept only WAEC. Contact us for more details.
Are scholarships available for international students?
There are a number of scholarships available for international students. Some universities also offer tuition discounts when you get an offer with them.
Visas and Immigration
How do I apply for a student visa to study in the UK?
When you go through Narrowhill for your admission, we also help you with your visa application. It is advisable to make your visa application with experienced and trusted experts so as not to make mistakes that may lead to a refusal.
Can I still get a student visa if i have previous refusals?
As long as you give totally honest answers in your application, your visa has a good chance of being approved. The exceptions are when you have a ban, or if you falsify information.

How much do I need for visa processing?
To apply for a student visa, you need to show evidence of funds that cover your tuition and living expenses for the duration of your stay.
Does having a previous UK visit visa refusal affect my chances of getting my student visa approved?
Not necessarily. However, it is important to state that you must provide accurate and honest information, and must not be under a ban.
How long does it take for the visa to be approved?
Depending on whether you apply for standard or priority service; It takes between 7 days to a month to get a response. Super priority is very expensive, but you get your decision after 24 hours.
Accommodation and Living Arrangements
How can I find affordable accommodation as an international student?
There are various options for an international student studying in the UK as regards accommodation. Accommodation on campus is usually difficult to get and spaces get filled up quickly, so students usually opt for off-campus accommodation. It is advisable you get to your study destination before your course starts so you can choose an accommodation option suitable for you.
Can I get accommodation with the school I study in?
Yes, but not always. If you are in foundation year or your first year as an undergraduate, you will be prioritized for on-campus accommodation. If you fall outside that bracket, you may need to stay off campus.
Can I work while studying as an international student?
Yes, you can work for 20 hours a week as an international student on a student visa.
Cultural Adjustment and Support Services
How can I adjust to life abroad as a Nigerian student?
There are communities for black students, including Nigerians in practically every school in the UK. That extends to US and Canada to a large extent as well. Don’t fear, you’ll easily find a community you belong to and integrate once you get to your destination.
Are support services available for international students?
Yes, most universities have dedicated personnel providing support to international students. Communities and student groups also exist to support you. If you are religious, you’ll find ways to also connect with people of your faith. There are ample support services for international students.
How can I stay connected with the Nigerian community while studying abroad?
SInce there are Nigerian communities abroad, you will be able to still stay connected. Although it won’t be the same as staying home here, you will be able to find like minds to associate with. Also, since the time difference between UK and Nigeria is just one hour, communicating with family and friends back home won’t be difficult.
Would I have to compromise on diets and lifestyle choices after travelling?
Yes, to a large extent. The weather conditions are very different from here, so you;ll have to adapt to dressing protectively. Also, the food that is commonplace may not be what you are used to, but there are African restaurants and stores you can go to.
How will a first-time traveller find the weather in the UK?
Cold, especially if the person goes in the winter. The temperature could go as low as negative degrees. However, there are four seasons so it’s not cold all through the year.
Post-Study Opportunities
Can I extend my stay after completing my studies?
Yes, you can. Especially if you studied as a postgraduate student and passed. There is a 2-year post-study visa available for students who studied in the UK before January 2024. If you also secure employment with a company willing to sponsor you or go for further studies, you will be able to extend your stay.
Am I guaranteed employment after graduating?
This isn’t set in stone. You may or may not get employment after graduation. However, if you actively work towards it, perform excellently in your studies, and network properly, you’ll have higher chances of securing employment.
Can I change my country/state location upon graduation?
Yes, you can.
